Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located many other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations show the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for information.
An important official stated the vandalism made him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
